MATERIALS NEEDED TO CONSTRUCT A PERGOLA

The materials that you needed to procure for this endeavor are two by four stock, two by eight stock, four by four post stock, cement mixture, base tubes, post anchors, bolts, screws, nails and paint.

TOOLS

The tools that you needed are nail gun, drill with bits, hammer, shovel, wheelbarrow, tape measure, ladder, ratchet, saw, paint brush and stakes.

STEPS IN BUILDING A PERGOLA

This project can take different forms. For a rectangular shape pergola, construct the basic shape with the help of stakes. Look for a straight line in the set-up to use as an example so that everything is in right order. A solid base is needed if you are making it in a big area and if it will support a big amount of weight. Make two to four inches holes for the posts.

Create a concrete mixture by following the directions printed on the cement bag and place it inside the base tubes. The height of tube should three inches below. Place the post anchors into the cement mixture before it hardens. Install the posts to the anchors and stabilize them with the help of strapping. Place the headers evenly.

Mark the line around the wooden posts where you will cut it to length. Measure the headers to your designs and carefully divide them too. It is better to varnish or paint your set-up before putting the parts together. This will ensure that each part is thoroughly covered with paint.

You should divide the cross members to your desired length. When picking a stock, check if there are no deformities in it. Use a three-four-five triangle level to check if all stocks are of the same level. Paint the members. You can also place a patio in your project.

After that, connect the wooden posts to their supports. Tighten the bolt areas of the headers and the posts. Shape the corner blocks to the size needed where the posts and headers intersect and install the supports with the screws.

Place the cross members on the upper portion of the headers. Attach each header to the bigger boards. If you utilized a middle board for stability, connect it to the bigger boards as well.
